Trivia: The original novel is set in England, but the story was relocated to Vermont for the film.
The film is based of the novels of christian writer Robin Jones Gunn (best known for the ‘Christy Miller’ series). Her novel ‘Finding Father Christmas‘ was initially pitched to Hallmark Movies and Mysteries in 2011, but rejected due to a lack of romance. Gunn’s agent suggested combining the novel with its’ more romantic sequel ‘Engaging Father Christmas‘, after which Hallmark greenlighted the project.
The film premiered on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel on November 13, 2016. It was both the highest rated and the most watched premier in the network’s history. It was subsequently broadcast a further twenty times in the lead up to Christmas, including on Christmas Day.
On May 9, 2017, Hallmark announced that a sequel “Engaging Father Christmas”, would be part of their Christmas line up.
Trivia: Author Robin Jones Gunn penned an ebook (How My Book Became A Movie:A True Story) about her experience.
